When we heard about the collaboration between M&S and Alexa Chung we were excited. I mean who wouldn’t want to rummage around the mega fashion archives with the fashion muse?
The premise of the collection is that Alexa has rediscovered 31 of the most amazing pieces from yesteryear and added modern touches. Critics have wondered why that Alexa has been collaborating with such a sensible brand. However the British company has been at the forefront of fashion for over 130 years. As Alexa says “I have always had an affection for Marks & Spencer. There was something very touching about looking back through the British fashion and social history for which M&S is synonymous”.
Over the years we’ve been charmed by St Michael dresses, we’ve even sold some directly to the archives, that are based in The University of Leeds. They are fabulous, super high quality and very often stand the test of time.
I enjoyed looking through the new M&S pieces and I can imagine wearing the little gingham ‘Elsie’ dress on a hot summers day. However, I will continue to wear vintage, the copies just aren’t as beautiful or unique as the one off pieces that you can discover your self.
When there are so many wonderful garments to be found and brought back to life, why let Alexa have all of the fun?
